RALSTON WITHOUT A CAUSE.

Even the bad boys have good sides, and we got to see that side of Evan Ralston, as he talks about his famous family, what he looks for in love, and his future in Hollywood.

What attracted you to the Twilight world?

To be honest, I was approached about the part. I hadn't read the novels, nor had I planned to. But it seemed like an interesting role to take on, so I auditioned for it. I like darker roles, but playing Carlisle is like a little bit of dark, with a little bit of light.

How do you feel now that you no longer work with your father?

A lot of the roles I got when I was younger, fresh out of college, were my father's doing. They weren't handed to me, but he did have a lot of knowledge on the parts, and he'd give me that knowledge whenever he was producing a film. I think he just wanted me to stay busy. Now, I'm deciding to do something on my own for a change. Me and my father don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, so it's better that way.

Which upcoming project are you most excited about?

I read a script for a comedy the other day. It's not your typical comedy, with the cheesy jokes and slap-stick humor. It's a black comedy, so I get to do something funny for a change without feeling too out of place. I'm normally not a very funny guy, so it's refreshing to try something new.

Will you be stepping into comedies from now on?

Probably not. Well...definitely not. I don't know what the future holds, but if I had to guess, I'd say no one will find me hysterical enough to cast me in a fluffy, warm-hearted comedy. After playing Dusty [Dinkleman] in Just Friends, I think I'm done with that genre.

With so much concentration on your work, are you worried about the toll it will take on your personal life?

Sometimes work is personal life, and sometimes personal life is work. I don't think we really have to separate the two all of the time. Almost everything I do in my personal life I can do while I'm working. I've been called a workaholic for having this idea, but I really don't work that much. And when I'm not filming or promoting a film, I'm usually at home.

What about the time that you've spent out at night, as shown in various tabloids?

Yeah, I go out at night, so what? Humans are naturally social creatures. So I like to go out and converse. The tabloids will always take someone's night life and dissect it completely, it's just what they do.

How do you feel about the rehab rumors that were floating around during your time on the Definitely, Maybe set last year?

I don't care about those rumors. They're just that. I'm not going to rehab, not now and not ever. I don't get a lot of sleep at night, and people started ragging on me more. Lack of sleep, plus people trying to pry into your private business doesn't mix well, not for me. I lashed out, and I was punished for that by all of these accusations that I should be in rehab.

So basically, they tried to make you go to rehab and you said 'no, no, no'?

Damn, I'm getting tired of hearing that one.

We're sorry! We couldn't help ourselves. Do you find it particularly tough dealing with tabloid rumors, since most of the rumors about you involve drugs, or other scandalous topics?

No. People will always say what they want to say.

When will we read a rumor about a special someone in your life?

Not anytime soon. At least, not something serious. I get tired of relationships really easily. They're hard work, and just when you think you have it figured out, it changes and you have to start all over again. I fall in love easily, and fall out of love just as quick. So I'm just waiting on something to stick.

What characteristics in someone would make love 'stick' for you?

Someone smart, incredibly smart, if I'm lucky enough to meet someone like that. Non-judgmental is also good. I don't want a babysitter, I want a companion. But don't take that out of context, because I'm not looking right now.

Are you constantly criticized for the time you spend solo?

I'm criticized for everything. I like spending time by myself. It's peaceful, since people tend to breed drama. What people don't know about me, is that I spend time alone because I think it's therapeutic. In this business, you tend to always be surrounded by people. We forget what it's like to just be by ourselves, enjoying the sound of silence, or the sound of nothing but our thoughts. Plus, contrary to popular belief, I am trying to keep myself out of trouble, and a more solitary life will do just that.

You sound very wise when you explain all of this. How long did it take you to learn these little life lessons?

Too long. I'm still learning. Trying to find a balance, a meaning in everything. A purpose. Something to hold on to in life is important. I'm looking for that too. I'm still learning everything, and I started learning it all when I left college. Things changed a lot back then and the more I dealt with the change, the more I began to learn.

It seems that you have very solid ideas about what you expect from yourself and life. So what can we expect from Evan Ralston in the future?

Things are unpredictable, so don't expect much. Don't get your hopes up, or try to predict me. I might act more, I might not. I might go out at night, maybe I'll show up at some kind of social event. Maybe I'll work with my father again. Who really knows?
